How is Punjab Electricity Bill Calculated?
Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) determines domestic slab rates for domestic supply (DS). For example, if a consumer in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, or Patiala consumes 350 units with a 1 kW load (exceeding the 300 free units limit):
- First 100 units @ ₹3.49 = ₹349.00
- Next 200 units (101 to 300) @ ₹5.84 = ₹1,168.00
- Remaining 50 units (301 to 350) @ ₹7.30 = ₹365.00
- Total Energy Charges: ₹1,882.00
- Fixed Demand Charges: 1 kW × ₹115 = ₹115.00
- Electricity Duty (13%): (₹1,882 + ₹115) × 13% = ₹259.61
- Municipal / Infrastructure Cess: ₹30.00
- Estimated Total Monthly Bill: ₹2,286.61 (Approx ₹2,287)
Punjab 300 Free Units Subsidy Rules
Under the Government of Punjab's power subsidy scheme:
- Domestic consumers are entitled to 300 units of free power per month (or 600 units in a 2-month bimonthly billing cycle).
- If monthly consumption remains at or below 300 units, the consumer receives a Zero Electricity Bill (no energy charge, no fixed charges, no duty).
- For general category consumers, if consumption reaches 301 units or higher, the subsidy lapses completely and the bill is calculated for all 301+ units from unit 1.
Electricity Utility in Punjab
Electricity across all 23 districts in Punjab is managed by a single state public corporation:
- PSPCL (Punjab State Power Corporation Limited): State-owned power generation and distribution utility headquartered in Patiala.
- Consumers can pay bills, view duplicate bills, and check ledger history on pspcl.in or through the PSPCL Consumer Services mobile application using their 10-digit Contract Account (CA) number.
