How is Haryana Electricity Bill Calculated?
The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) regulates domestic supply (Category I) slab rates. For example, if a household in Gurugram, Faridabad, Panipat, or Karnal consumes 250 units in a month with a 1 kW load:
- First 50 units @ ₹2.00 = ₹100.00
- Next 50 units (51 to 100) @ ₹2.50 = ₹125.00
- Remaining 150 units (101 to 250) @ ₹5.25 = ₹787.50
- Total Energy Charges: ₹1,012.50
- Fixed Demand Charges: 1 kW × ₹110 = ₹110.00
- Electricity Duty (10%): (₹1,012.50 + ₹110) × 10% = ₹112.25
- FSA & Municipal Tax: ₹35.00
- Estimated Total Monthly Bill: ₹1,269.75 (Approx ₹1,270)
Category I vs Category II Slabs in Haryana
Under HERC regulations:
- Category I (Up to 100 Units/Month): Low-consumption households enjoy highly subsidized lifeline rates starting at ₹2.00/unit and ₹2.50/unit with lower fixed charges.
- Category II (Above 100 Units/Month): Households consuming more than 100 units transition to standard slab tariffs (₹5.25 to ₹7.10/unit).
- Solar net metering under HAREDA offers substantial bill reduction by crediting surplus power generation against your billed consumption.
