How is Madhya Pradesh Electricity Bill Calculated?
The Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC) sets residential tariffs (Tariff LV-1) for rural and urban domestic consumers. For example, if a household in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, or Gwalior consumes 250 units with a 1 kW load (standard tariff):
- First 50 units @ ₹4.13 = ₹206.50
- Next 50 units (51 to 100) @ ₹4.68 = ₹234.00
- Next 100 units (101 to 200) @ ₹6.05 = ₹605.00
- Remaining 50 units (201 to 250) @ ₹6.45 = ₹322.50
- Total Energy Charges: ₹1,368.00
- Fixed Demand Charges: 1 kW × ₹120 = ₹120.00
- Electricity Duty (9%): (₹1,368 + ₹120) × 9% = ₹133.92
- Regulatory & FCA Surcharge: ₹30.00
- Estimated Total Monthly Bill: ₹1,651.92 (Approx ₹1,652)
MP Indira Grah Jyoti Yojana (Subsidy Scheme)
Under the Government of Madhya Pradesh's Indira Grah Jyoti Yojana:
- Eligible domestic consumers who consume up to 100 units in a month are billed a subsidized flat rate of just ₹100 for the first 100 units.
- If consumption stays within 150 units, the first 100 units remain at ₹100, and only the next 50 units are charged at regular slab rates.
- If total monthly consumption exceeds 150 units, the subsidy does not apply and full MPERC tariff rates are charged for all units.
